Where have I been? What have I done?
After graduating from college, I explored many possible career paths. I worked in outdoor education, healthcare, legal advocacy, and food service. These varied experiences taught me a great deal about the world and where I want to dedicate my energy in an effort to affect positive change. Additionally, I grew to better understand some of my core values — including community connection, feeling purposeful, and the importance of cooperation and collaboration.
I decided to pursue a career in education because I deeply appreciate and respect the energy, inquisitiveness, and insight of the young people with whom I work. I have been a Social Studies teacher for a decade and have built many trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and community partners in this time. I have also worked on many teams to build collaborative approaches to addressing the diverse needs of the student body at Ithaca High School. Additionally, I have had to interpret and respond to policy changes at the building, district, and state level demonstrating my ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Beyond the classroom, I have dedicated my energy to creating community at IHS as the Senior Class Advisor, a coach, and the Awards Coordinator.
The lived experience and the skills that I have acquired will be significant asset to the County Legislature. My open-minded and collaborative approach will be helpful as the County determines how best to respond to the federal-level decisions that are being made and that will likely have significant impacts on our local community. My experience with relationship-building will be important to maintaining community connection and advocating for the needs and interests of the people who live here. Lastly, I care deeply about this County. I will commit my energy to being a responsive leader and to building a more resilient community in the present and for the future.
